This pivotal position is responsible for steering the financial operations of the organization, ensuring its fiscal health and long-term sustainability. The CFO will work hand-in-hand with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to craft and execute financial strategies that align with Goodwill’s mission and ambitious goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Leadership: Manage all aspects of accounting and finance, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while aligning operations with Goodwill’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Reporting & Insights: Deliver clear, actionable financial updates to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Senior Leadership, offering recommendations to enhance organizational performance.
  • Strategic Planning: Lead the development of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial strategies, identifying risks and opportunities to fuel growth.
  • Collaboration: Partner with the Senior Leadership Team to drive profitable growth, both within existing operations and through innovative social enterprises.
  • Analysis & Efficiency: Provide proactive financial analysis—tracking KPIs, assessing variances, and evaluating service performance—while leveraging IT expertise to implement cutting-edge software solutions.
  • External Representation: Build and maintain strong relationships with financial institutions, investors, auditors, and public officials, representing Goodwill with professionalism and confidence.
  • Compliance & Controls: Ensure adherence to nonprofit accounting standards, oversee cash flow and asset management, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the organization’s resources.
  • Team Leadership: Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth, mentoring your team to align with Goodwill’s vision.

Who We’re Looking For

Goodwill of Silicon Valley seeks a seasoned financial leader with a passion for mission-driven work. Here’s what you’ll need to thrive in this role:

Education & Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • At least 10 years in a senior or executive leadership role, with a proven track record in financial management.
  • Minimum of 5 years as a CFO, COO, or similar executive position, overseeing a budget of $100M or more.
  • 3+ years in high-level management, with expertise in strategic financial planning and execution.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products and management information systems.
Skills & Competencies
  • Exceptional leadership and decision-making abilities, with a knack for mentoring teams and fostering a positive culture.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex financial data and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and oral—to present ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
  • High organizational aptitude, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and manage cross-functional projects.
  • A calm, collected demeanor in high-pressure situations and a willingness to take on responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of nonprofit experience.
  • A history of developing and implementing successful financial strategies in a mission-driven environment.

Working at Goodwill of Silicon Valley

This full-time, in-person role is based in an office environment, with a standard workweek and occasional evening or weekend commitments. You’ll use standard office equipment—computers, phones, copiers—and enjoy a collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere. The position requires moderate emotional effort, with occasional tight deadlines and a fast-paced environment that emphasizes teamwork.

Physical Requirements
  • Sitting, standing, walking, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds without assistance.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $260,000 – $320,000 per year.
  • Benefits: Dental, health, life, and vision insurance, plus paid time off.
