Career Technical Education Month: Building Pathways to Possibility

February 25, 2026by Emily Martinez

Every February, organizations across the country celebrate Career Technical Education (CTE) Month, a national initiative led by the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders to recognizing the vital role hands-on learning and career training play in strengthening local economies and preparing a skilled workforce.

Here in Silicon Valley, Career Technical Education plays a vital role in expanding access to opportunity. As industries evolve and employers seek skilled talent, practical training programs help residents of all ages build real-world skills, earn industry certifications, and move into stable, well-paying careers without the burden of tuition costs.

Turning Potential Into Purpose: Our CTE Program

Goodwill of Silicon Valley’s Career Technical Education courses connect job seekers with hands-on training aligned to regional workforce needs, from construction and electrical fundamentals to healthcare and skilled trades. Offered at no cost, these programs are available to anyone living in Santa Clara or San Benito counties who is ready to build new skills and pursue meaningful employment. Whether someone is entering the workforce for the first time, changing careers, or returning after a break, our CTE Program meets learners where they are, and helps them move forward with purpose and possibility.

A Path to Sustainable Employment

What sets our CTE Program apart is the level of support participants receive beyond technical instruction. Our training is designed not only to teach skills, but to help individuals successfully transition into the workforce and build long-term careers.

Led by experienced industry professionals, programs emphasize applied learning, allowing participants to practice real-world tasks in environments that reflect today’s workplaces.

Participants benefit from:

  • Hands-on, real-world training that aligns with local employer needs
  • Career counseling and job placement assistance
  • Mentorship and supportive guidance
  • Soft skills development to build confidence in workplace success

By combining technical training with wrap-around support, this model increases the likelihood of sustainable employment and long-term success.

Where Workforce Development Meets Sustainability

For Goodwill of Silicon Valley, sustainability goes beyond the environment. it’s economic and social.

When you shop or donate with us, you’re not just keeping quality goods out of landfills and saving money.

You’re helping sustain life-changing workforce development initiatives like our CTE Program, and other career services that help neighbors prepare for in-demand jobs.

This is the circular economy in action:

  • Donated goods are reused and resold
  • Store revenue fund job training and placement programs
  • Participants gain skills and secure employment
  • Our community grows more resilient and economically sustainable.

Your choices directly contribute to people, planet, and progress.

Celebrating CTE Month Together

This CTE Month, we honor the power of hands-on learning and the strength, ambition, and success of individuals across Silicon Valley who are taking steps toward new careers and greater independence. None of this happens alone. It’s made possible by shoppers, donors, partners, and employers who believe opportunity should be within reach for everyone.

Because when we invest in skills, we invest in people, and in the future of Silicon Valley.

Thank you for supporting Goodwill of Silicon Valley, where second chances become new beginnings, and where sustainability and opportunity go hand in hand.
