Construction Fundamentals – Laborer’s Pre-Apprenticeship description: (Programs are offered at NO COST to clients)

This program ensures participants gain the tools and basic knowledge to start a new career in the construction field:

  • Students will earn a Pre-apprenticeship certification with Northern California Laborers’ Training Center (LIUNA).
  • They will also have the opportunity to earn certifications for: OSHA 10 safety training, First Aid/ CPR-AED,  Confined space awareness, Work zone safety & traffic control, Hazardous waste removal, Blueprint reading, and Skid steer loaders.
  • Students also receive employment preparation training, such as resume development and mock interviews

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Fluent in the English language
  • Have reliable transportation
  • HSD/GED preferred but not required
  • Eligible to work in the USA with proof of documentation
  • In good physical health; ability to stand for 6-8 hours and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must pass agility test at end of training
  • Driver’s license is preferred but not required

  • Parts Runner or Driver

Course Information:

  • Days Monday – Friday
  • Length: 6 weeks
  • Time 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • Location: Goodwill of Silicon Valley – 1080 N. 7th St, SJ, CA 95112

Session 1 Start: 05/31/2022 End: 07/08/2022

Session 2: Start: 08/22/2022 End: 09/30/2022 Deadline to apply: 08/17/2022

Veteran Status (provide one of the following):
  • DD214
  • VA ID card or other official documentation confirming veteran status

  • Verification from the SQUARES system

Household Income (for all household members):
  • Two months of recent pay stubs

  • Most recent tax return (Form 1040)

  • Documentation for disability, pension, or retirement income

Identification & Family Information:
  • Government-issued photo ID (passport, driver’s license, or state ID) for each household member

  • Birth certificates or custody papers to confirm dependents

  • Social Security cards for all household members

Housing Verification:
  • Lease agreement, or

  • A letter from a shelter, institution, or transitional housing provider

QUALIFYING FOR SUPPORT

To participate in Veteran Family Services, the head of household—or their spouse—must be a U.S. veteran, and the household must meet low-income guidelines (at or below 80% of the area median income).
