Goodwill of Silicon Valley - Sustainability

Do you have an old mattress or box spring taking up space at home? Don’t throw it away. Recycle it with Goodwill of Silicon Valley.

Mattresses aren’t commonly recycled, but we do things differently. Goodwill of Silicon Valley offers free mattress recycling at our Goodwill Circular Economy & Recycling Center in San Jose, making it easy to responsibly recycle mattresses and box springs while supporting job creation in our community.

Through our mattress recycling program at 1080 North 7th St. San Jose, CA, we recycle over 90% of mattress materials, keeping bulky waste out of landfills and giving materials a second life.

Even better, every mattress recycled supports job training and employment opportunities for individuals facing barriers to work.

Mattress Recycling Creates Jobs

Our mattress recycling program protects the environment and creates jobs for veterans facing homelessness, unemployment, and substance-use challenges.

Launched in partnership with the City of San Jose and the U.S. Department of Labor, this program provides hands-on work experience and job training for individuals who may face barriers to employment. In 2015, Goodwill of Silicon Valley became a state-certified mattress recycling facility, strengthening our commitment to sustainability and workforce development in Silicon Valley.
