Dr. Rayna Friendly is a developmental psychologist and learning science expert who brings
more than a decade of experience across education, research, and the nonprofit sector.
Her work focuses on the cognitive and emotional processes that shape how people think, learn,
and grow, with a particular emphasis on supporting individuals facing adversity. She integrates
cognitive science, trauma-informed practice, and developmental psychology to design learning
environments that are both brain-based and equity-driven.

At Goodwill of Silicon Valley, Rayna leads our organization-wide Learning & Development
function, building a trauma-responsive, culturally inclusive training ecosystem that strengthens
skills, confidence, and belonging across our Mission Services and Retail teams. She develops
curricula, job-readiness pathways, leadership programs, and professional learning experiences
that empower employees and participants to thrive.

Rayna’s background includes faculty roles at San Jose State University, training leadership at the
Hanna Institute, and extensive experience creating trauma-informed curricula for professionals
working with children, youth, and families. She is skilled in curriculum development,
instructional design, program evaluation, and facilitating professional development that
supports both individual and organizational growth.

Her approach blends research, compassion, and practical strategies. Whether she’s designing a
new training program or evaluating outcomes, she centers psychological safety, equity, and
real-world application. Driven by curiosity and a deep belief in every learner’s potential, Rayna
helps us create educational experiences that uplift, empower, and open pathways to lifelong
growth.
