The Accounting course gives students the skills to work in the highly in-demand field of accounting. Students learn the process of payroll and other vital accounting functions, and develop problem-solving capabilities using the accepted principles in finance. Graduates of the course possess the training to become a valuable addition to any business’s accounting or billing department.

 

Prerequisites

In order to benefit from the Accounting course, students must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  Students must possess a minimum ninth-grade skill level in reading comprehension and an eighth-grade level in mathematics. Students must also be 18 years of age upon the completion of the program.

Course Description

The Accounting program provides a wealth of resources: intensive training in manual and automated accounting, a thorough study of QuickBooks, practical instruction in business math and basic accounting principles, and more.
Course Objectives

It is a self-paced course that allows students to work at their own speed. Instruction is primarily from textbooks and computer exercises, with lectures given as needed. Students learn how to manage their time and work independently, while instructors are there to assist.

Course Objectives


Upon completion of the Accounting course, students will be able to:

* Understand the role of accounting in maintaining financial records and presenting them in an accurate and usable manner

* Define accounting terms and classify the different types of accounts and their functions in maintaining financial records

* Analyze and document transactions for proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations

* Post transactions, run a trial balance, and plan and perform the month end closing activities

* Analyze, calculate, and record correcting, adjusting, closing, and reversing entries

* Prepare financial statements (Income Statement, Statement of Owner’s Equity, and the Balance Sheet)

* Prepare payroll and earnings records for employees, with proper entries

* Record and verify cash receipts and cash reimbursements

* Define and apply the fundamental accounting principles that relate to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll transactions

* Maintain the check register, prepare deposits, and do the month end bank reconciliation

* Understand the role of computerized accounting systems, and be able to use them in maintaining financial records and generating reports
